Nuke future debate in Largs

By CALUM CORRAL

Printer Print Article

Earlier this year, the Government published its Energy White Paper highlighting the challenges the UK faces in addressing climate change and ensuring security of energy supplies for the future.

At the same time, it also announced a public consultation about the future of nuclear power generation. Its purpose is to consider whether it is in the public interest to allow energy companies to invest in new nuclear power stations.

Hunterston B nuclear power station is a major part of this community, employing over 500 full time staff and 150 long term contractors, contributing almost £30 million into the local economy through salary alone. I therefore believe it is important that my staff and I make every effort to ensure that our community is fully engaged in this process.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions of representatives of the industry. The event will take place at The Brisbane House Hotel on Tuesday 25th September 2007 from 6pm till 8pm.
