BB Christmas Fayre

1st Largs Boys’ Brigade will be holding their Christmas Fayre on Saturday 1 December in Dunn Memorial Hall, 10am - 12.30pm. Entrance is £1. There will be all the usual stalls, including home baking and a tea room.

Advent Quiet Day

The Action Group for Spirituality are hosting an Advent Quiet Day in St Columba’s Episcopal Church hall, Aubery Crescent, on Saturday 8 December, 10 for 10.30am - 3pm approximately. The theme is ‘The Light of Christ’. Please take a packed lunch - tea and coffee will be provided.

Thankyou

St John’s Church would like to thank everyone who helped in any way towards their Christmas Fayre last Saturday. Over £4300 was raised and this total will be divided equally between the Gillian Ward Saltire Appeal, Blythswood Care, Friends of South Beach House, Erskine Hospital and Glasgow City Mission.

Largs Thistle Family Day

Following the success of last Saturday's family day at Largs Thistle, the club are willing to continue the offer for this weekend's game against Vale of Clyde, 1.45pm kick-off. All children accompanied by a paying adult will gain free entry into the match.

OIR

There will be an Opportunities in Retirement meeting on Wednesday 5 December in the Dunn Memorial Hall at 2pm. Come along and enjoy the music of the Clyde Coast Fiddlers, sing along or have a dance, stay on for a cup of tea and a chat - all welcome.

Bosom Buddies

The last meeting of this session of Bosom Buddies will take place on Tuesday 4 December at 7.30pm in Lounge when Christine Stewart will be giving a demonstration on the Alexander Technique. Meetings will start again in February.

Service for the bereaved

An Advent service for the bereaved has now become an annual feature in Largs. This service is organised jointly by the clergy in the town and the local funeral directors. It will take place at the United Free Church this year, on Saturday 8 December, starting at 3pm.

Merge

‘Bringing Christmas Home’ is the title of the Merge youth-led church service to be held on Saturday 1 December, 7 - 8.30pm, in St John’s Church. Interested adults and young people are invited to support this service, which will be highlighting the current situation in Israel and Palestine, particularly from the point of view of the Palestinians.

Historical Society

The Marine Section of the Largs and District Historical Society are hosting a ‘Members’ Night’ in the museum on Monday 3 December at 7.30pm.

Episcopal Yuletide

St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church in Aubery Crescent will be holding their ever-popular yuletide afternoon in the church hall between 2 and 4pm on Saturday 1 December. Stalls to include baking and gifts. The entrance fee of £1.50 includes tea/coffee, mince pie, Christmas cake or shortbread.

Monastery Christmas Fayre

The Benedictine Monastery Christmas Fayre is to take place on Saturday 1 December between 1 - 4pm. Various stalls. Entrance £1.50.

Give Blood

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service are inviting local residents to donate blood when their mobile donating team visit the Dunn Memorial Hall on Thursday 6 December, 2.30 - 3.45pm and 5.15 - 7.30pm. Remember that just three teaspoonfuls of your blood could be used to help save the life of a premature baby.

WEA

The next meeting (sherry and shortbread) of the Workers Educational Association is on Wednesday 5 December in Skelmorlie Community Centre, 9.45 - 11.45am.

Celtic Supporters

Largs Celtic Supporters Club tote numbers for 13 November were 2 and 47. There was one winner, James McQuatt, who receives £50. The numbers on 20 November were 2 and 32, and there were six winners, each receiving £9: H. Cullis, C. MacPherson, R. Armstrong, J. Boland, J. McCaskill, and Steph (Saltcoats).

Largs Thistle Family Day

Following the success of family day at Largs Thistle last week, the club have extended their offer to allow children free entry to Barrfields if they are accompanied by an adult to Saturday’s league fixture against Vale of Clyde, 1.45pm kick-off.

The results of play on Thursday 22 November were as follows: N/S 1st Ruth and Dick Davis; 2nd Jean McDaid and Brian Spencer; 3rd Margaret McIroy and Dolly McLellan; E/W 1st Norma Kelly and Sadie Morton; 2nd Dorothy McGregor and Katie Henderson; 3rd Zandra Combe and John Wood.

Largs Bridge

The Stone Trophy was played on 26 November and the results were as follows: 1st Anne and Iain Bannatyne, and Donald and Betty Laing 115 VPs; 2nd Ian Jones and Paddy Walsh, and Norma Kelly and Sadie Morton 106 VPs; 3rd Ruth and Jim Fisher, and Walter Brown and Betty Brown 89 VPs.
