'Shocking state of our local roads'
The poor state of major main roads in Largs, Millport and Fairlie came under fire from councillors and members of the public during a recent North Ayrshire Council meeting in Largs.
Labour and Conservative councillors joined in the calls for improved maintenance of our roads as growing anger was expressed at pot-holes, bad patching, and the fact that workmen had finished their work but left the roads in a bad state.
Local Labour councillor Alex Gallagher led the calls and said there were several different areas of Largs Main Street where roadworks had taken place with Scottish Water, where the work had been completed, but the road had not been sufficiently levelled off. He asked if North Ayrshire Council roads department could pursue the issue with Amey Highways, who carry out the maintenance on the trunk road.
Conservative councillor Elisabethe Marshall added that she had received complaints of large pot-holes in the Main Road in Fairlie between The Causeway and Station Road, while representatives from Cumbrae Community Council also criticised the state of their road around the island, prompting North Ayrshire Roads chief Ronnie Small to state that a new jet-patching system was coming into use to help provide a better road and differed to the more traditional method.
