A Fairlie historian has said it is a disgrace that 200 year old trees are being axed down in order to provide houses in the Castlepark Gardens area with a better view of the seafront.
Local man and historian John McPhie said he was stunned when trees were being knocked down in the local area unannounced. Speaking at Fairlie Community Council meeting, Mr McPhie said: “Some of these trees are really old. They are 200 years old in some cases and I think it is a disgrace that they are getting knocked down just so residents can have a better view. The problem is once it is done, it is done.”
The yew trees have been removed from the top level of the ‘Ho Chi Minh trail’, as it is nicknamed within the village, which includes an old path between the Main Road of Fairlie and Castlepark Gardens.
