See the 1970 Brisbane Queen in glorious technicolour! VIDEO
Rare video footage has surfaced on the web of the 1970 Brisbane Queen Festival.
Irene Berry was given the prestigious position as Brisbane Queen with the rare cine colour film displaying the crowning event.
The action also includes dozens of floats in a parade at Barrfields Park which looks to be full to capacity.
This year's Brisbane Queen has been cancelled for the first time in three decades due to lack of numbers on the organising committee and a lack of participation.
The much loved event started as a seaside queen event in the 1930s before becoming the Brisbane Queen in 1936 to celebrate the close connections between Largs and Australia through Sir Thomas Brisbane, the soldier and astronomer.
The fascinating footage gives a glimpse of when the Brisbane Queen Festival used to be a massive event in Largs and the surrounding area. The rare footage also shows a scene with the old Kelburn Primary School in the background, which was burnt down the early 1990s.
