Parish party ... Fairlie is to celebrate 175 years of church life.

A new committee has been formed in preparation for the 175th anniversary celebrations of church life in Fairlie.

The anniversary takes place in 2009 and commemorates the founding of the Ecclesiastical Parish Of Fairlie when parish status was granted from being a “Chapel of Ease” of St Columba’s Parish Church, Largs.

The church has evolved to being the twin Parishes of St Paul and St Margaret to the present day of Fairlie Parish Church.

Fairlie Parish Church used to be called St Paul’s, while St Margaret’s, next to the Village Hall, has been converted into a house during recent years.

The Parish anniversary will be celebrated between January-April 2009 when there will be events for all ages culminating in a visit on 26 April from the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The organising committee under the chairmanship of the Minister James Whyte is Judith Cunningham, Anne Ellor, Nancy Forsyth, Linda Beveridge, Alastair Beveridge and Andrew Davie.

In the Fairlie Parish Church newsletter, Mrs Nancy Forsyth said: “Our recently formed committee has already met at the Manse to discuss events to celebrate the 175 years of our Church. My task is to organise a flower festival in April 2009. It is 11 months away but we need to start thinking about it now. I would therefore like to invite anybody who might be interested in assisting in any way at all, not only in flower arranging, but with any other tasks connected with the flower festival.”

To help in the flower festival, contact Mrs Forsyth on 568656.
