Largs Academy earns excellent report
Largs Academy has received an absolutely glowing report from school inspectors - and even attained two highly-sought accolades in the process.
HM Inspectorate of Education visited the Flatt Road secondary this year, giving the school a rare ‘Excellent’ award in two areas - a rarely used category which denotes work of an outstanding and sector-leading quality.
One was for the engagement of staff in the life and work of the school, while the other went to head teacher Arthur Jones for his leadership of improvement and change.
Inspectors - who spoke to teachers, pupils and parents in compiling their report - found that key strengths at the Academy included sustained high levels of attainment and the exemplary commitment of staff to promoting pupils’ achievement.
The team said that that the Academy - which has a roll of 1050 - had “maintained a tradition of high academic attainment and had increased its focus on meeting the needs of all pupils”.
Praise was also given for the “very high quality of learning support” and the “rigorous and effective procedures for monitoring and evaluation”.
Mr Jones was commended for his clear vision towards future developments based on very good knowledge of the school and “sound awareness of national priorities and initiatives in education”.
More next week.
