Goodbye to Largs ... Reverend Peter Potter.

A Largs minister is heading abroad after applying for a foreign posting, leaving Largs after over eight years at the helm of St Columba’s Episcopal Church.

Reverend Peter Potter revealed to the ‘News’ that he had harboured ambitions to become a minister abroad after being in Holland briefly in the lead up to his minister training over twenty years ago.

The Anglican minister will move to the Swiss city of Berne where he will predominantly preach to ex-pats and Brits abroad, in a similar sized church.

Rev. Potter, who grew up in Cheshire before living in Manchester said: “

Largsis a beautiful location and has been a privilege. I am sure I will still come back and visit friends. Largs is a very welcoming place and it will leave me with many memories. We are a fairtrade church, and during my time, we introduced pet services which proved to be very popular.”

"There have also been a lot of refurbishment and restoration at the church. We have been trying to respond to the challenges in the town, people are moving in all the time and we have tried to provide a welcoming introduction to a new environment and style of life for these people.”

Reverend Potter and his wife Shareene, have three grown-up children and seven grandchildren based in the UK and Canada. The couple were heading out to Switzerland this week and will be hoping for as warm a welcome in their new home as they have found in Largs.
