Rebel North Ayrshire MP Katy Clark has said she was defending our historic civil liberties when she voted against installing a 42 day detention for terror suspects. She has voiced her disappointment that the controversial proposals look set to get the go-ahead after the vote was passed at the House of Commons.
Ms Clark said that she remained unconvinced of the need for the extension and it was important to preserve ‘our fundamental liberties’.
She also raised fears that it could harm relations with muslim communities by carrying out the extension which was passed in a narrow vote.
“It is a very, very difficult situation but I couldn’t vote for something that I just could not agree on. I am disappointed that the legislation was passed," commented our local MP.
