New Fairlie Eco Garden could fight disease
The new community garden in Fairlie could become a blueprint for other sustainable gardens around the world and help in the fight against cancer, climate change, and food shortages in developing countries.
The Fairlie Garden Growers group, who have launched the Community Garden project, have set up a pioneering scheme which, if replicated, could be crucial for the future of the planet.
The environmental group put kitchen waste into domestic wormeries and the worms transform it into enriched wormcast which is an exceptional fertiliser and produces healthy fruit, vegetables, herbs and other plants. This innovative waste to food process counters climate change by carrying the carbon back into the soil where it should be.
The group stated: “The first of the major challenges is climate change, the second is Scotland is the sick man of Europe yet our housing and hospital care is improving yet we have this increase in cancer, diabetes and other conditions.
