Bishops gather in Millport
On Friday 11th July, the Cathedral of The Isles was the setting for a Festal Choral Evensong when Martin Shaw, Bishop of Argyll & the Isles, welcomed the Bishops of Karimnagar (India), of Central Tanganyika (Africa) and Delaware (USA) to the Diocese.
They were visiting the West of Scotland before travelling south to attend the Lambeth Conference of Anglican Bishops. The Cathedral Choir and Jonathan Cohen (organ) were in fine form for the occasion, and after the service the Bishops, their wives, and the congregation greatly enjoyed being serenaded on the lawn by “The Grumpy Old Men,” a group of Millport’s more experienced pipers.
The photo taken after the event by Effie Kerr, shows three of the visiting Bishops and their wives, Bishop Martin Shaw and his wife. Alistair Chisholm, Director of Music and the Cathedral Choir is pictured, second right in back row, with Helen Hamilton, Warden of the Cathedral at bottom right.
