Largs Players will kick off their ever-popular comedy theatre season this week with a fruity tale that’s sure to have audiences (banana) splitting their sides.

The fifteenth season of the little theatre by the sea will be helped by Morrison’s supermarket in a unique sponsorship of bananas for the funny ‘Pushcart Peddlers’ which sees two New York stallholders.

It stars Frank McCarrey (pictured right with Morrison’s Produce Manager Lee Richardson), Angie Kelly and Drew Cochrane, who is also directing.

The fun starts this Thursday night (17th) at the Brisbane Centre in Bath Street, where audiences will also be treated to ‘Principal Girls’, directed by Jan Green.

It’s a new play featuring all of the main fairytale characters like Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella who get together at a reunion to look back on their careers.

The comedy theatre season will be running every Tuesday and Thursday evening until the end of August.

Every year the Players set up their little theatre which brings in not only the local following but holidaymakers and traditional daytrippers.

Founder member Drew Cochrane said: “What started as an experiment in the early 90s has taken off and it’s now one of Largs’ most popular summer events. We thank Morrisons for the bananas.”

All plays start at 8pm and tickets at £5 can only be purchased at the door on the nights on a first-come, first- served basis for the hall capacity of 60. People from outwith town can phone the Players secretary, Fiona Carruthers, on 01475 673882.
