It's floody wet in Inverkip
Inverkip residents are calling for a massive overhaul of the village’s sewerage system as heavy rain continues to cause flooding problems.
They say that the surface of Main Street has suffered damage due to the pressure of rain and sewage flowing down a pipe from the top of the village.
New housing has added more pressure to the water and sewerage system, which, in the past, has caused the road to break up outside the Inverkip Hotel and raw sewage to well up from below.
Cliff Lyons, a former member of Inverkip Community Council, said: “I put the blame for this squarely on Scottish Water for not being prepared to invest properly in pipes that will be able to cope when there is heavy rain.
“It will cost millions of pounds to resolve the problem, but something has to be done to stop this happening every year.
“Scottish Water is dragging its heels. Inverclyde Council has to pick up the pieces every time, but it’s not their fault.”
