Reverend Andrew McGurk with a special shirt that was presented to him on his 25th anniversary as a minister.

A small delegation from St John’s Church disguised themselves as ‘two special packages’ at an airport in Ghana so as not to spoil their surprise visit to celebrate a new minister who built up a close connection with Largs!

Josephine Mate Kole was told to visit Accra Airport to pick up the delivery and was astonished and delighted to discover it was actually Reverend Andrew McGurk and Boys Brigade leader Jim Lamont!

Faithshare Partner Josephine Mate Kole visited Largs four years ago as part of an amazing journey and became inspired to be a minister by her trip to Largs.

It was part of a ten day trip to the heart of Africa to take part in the celebrations as Josephine joined the ministry, with Reverend McGurk even invited to make his own contribution at the service which lasted fully five and a half hours without any breaks.

“That was with it being 30 plus degrees in temperature and great humidity,” said Rev.McGurk, ”It was a marvellous service and I had the opportunity to make the scripture readings in the service. It was quite a surprise for her at the airport when she was told she had two packages to pick up. When she arrived and she saw us, her face lit up and she jumped up and down. She will be appointed to a church in July where she will serve a probationary period.”
