Success story of Millport holiday homes
By David Walker
Big hearted islanders who helped to save some of Millport's ailing holiday stock are hoping to hand over their running after twenty years of success.
Cumbrae Holiday Apartmentrs was set up by a group of islanders in 1988 in a bid to save some of the town's most rundown properties, but many of the original shareholders have now passed away or left Millport altogether.
However, this week , acting charirman Frank Mapes stated proudly: "This company now stands on the brnk of being debt-free with close to half a million pounds' worth pf property wholly owned."
Now the group are set to hold a crucial Extraordinary General Meeting this Friday (25th) where they hope that at least half of their shareholders will agree to transfer their operations to Cumbrae Community Development Company.
Mr Mapes said: "Where the company goes in the future and what its assets do for our island is unknown. Being a community company, its assets must always remain in Cumbraes about which our rules are quite clear."
