Traffic disruption after flooding
Print Article
Off track ... the railway line at West Kilbride was deluged resulting in disruption to services.
Flooding affected West Kilbride last week as roads and train lines were affected by heavy rain last Thursday evening.
The back roads from West Kilbride to Dalry were deluged with water run-off from the nearby fields resulting in chaos to the local B781 and B782 roads.
Eye-witness Peter Bowyer, a local fire officer from Largs, was cycling back from Kilwinning and described the scene. He said: “It was around two and a half inches deep. Buses and cars were still going through but it was very difficult for them. There was a moped cyclist passing through and I warned him to be very careful but he went through the water and in one area it was very deep and fell in. He was very lucky that he was able to get his motorbike started again as water may have got into the engine.”
