Businesses blamed for parking woes

A local community councillor believes that Largs business owners are “their own worst enemies” - as they take up vital parking spaces outside their own premises.

Speaking at a recent meeting in Moorburn Chambers, councillor Ewen Maclean said that there had been wide concerns over the loss of town centre parking as a result of North Ayrshire Council’s traffic management plans.

However, he believes that some business owners in the town only have themselves to blame as they are the ones taking away many of the spaces.

Referring to his regular early morning picking up of work colleagues from a bus stop in the Main Street, he said: “Very often I get up there and it’s practically empty.”

Yet, he said that, while waiting, he would witness many business owners taking up prime parking spots, adding: “When I drop them off at night, these cars are still parked there.”

Mr Maclean commented: “They are their own worst enemies - they are probably harming their own businesses.
