An archaeological sweep of fields behind the Castlepark area of Fairlie has been taking place in recent weeks.
Diggers moved into the lands behind Castlepark Gardens and Castlepark Drive unannounced resulting in many questions being asked at a recent Fairlie Community Council meeting.
Part of this section of land has been earmarked in the village for housing amounting to possibly 115 properties, it was pointed out at a recent North Coast committee meeting.
Lord Glasgow has announced his intention to sell the local land to housing developers with Dawn Homes believed to be involved. Last year, the historic Fairlie Manse was demolished to the surprise of local residents leading to speculation that it would provide an access route to a new housing development.
