Controversy in Moorburn U-turn row
Councillors made a last-ditch attempt to overturn the controversial sale of Moorburn House in Largs for a surprising £325,000 - but were snubbed by fellow local members.
In July, NAC agreed to approve the sale of the B-listed council offices and seafront gardens to Glasgow-based Clyde Building and Property Company Limited with a view to carrying out a residential conversion.
Council Labour leader David O’Neill welcomed the £325,000 sale as “excellent news”, stating that Moorburn had been “saved for Largs” as a result.
Councillor Marshall also pointed out that the property was on a prime site and gave examples of other, much higher sale prices achieved for a nearby house, hotel and land.
However, Assistant Chief Executive for Legal and Protective Services, Ian T Mackay, pointed to “the constraints of the site in terms of development potential and the current state of repair of the building itself” as key reasons for their decision.
