The explosive climax to the 2008 Viking Festival took place on Saturday night.

The re-enactment of the 1263 battle of Largs with around 100 Scottish and Norse warriors resulted in skirmishes, battleaxes and Viking roars aplenty.

But the Vikings were sent home to think again after a doomed attempt to invade the Scottish heartlands after a Braveheart showing.

The Longship was set ablaze arrows as it makes its final journey to Valhallla. The skies were then lit up with a spectacular fireworks display producing a dazzling array of colours and light.

The traditional Party at the Pencil brought a highly successful week of activities to an end which included the arrival of the RFA Largs Bay, Continental Food Fair and Farmers Market, dog shows and skating competitions.
