Clean-coal power station for Hunterston?

New Power Station for Hunterston? ... but its not nuclear
The envisaged end of nuclear power could be upon us if Clydeport ‘masterplan’ proposals get the go-ahead to build a clean-coal power station which would link to the national grid in 2016.
The historic change would see Hunterston ‘B’ reach the end of its life and be decommissioned.
The proposed clean coal power station at Clydeport will utilise the existing coal terminal to import raw materials and the existing connection to the national grid for its output.
In a Clydeport draft document which identifies Hunterston as a national development in the planning framework, it states:
Hunterston Development Plan
“Allowing time to obtain consents (2-3 years) and construction (4-5 years) it is intended that a clean-coal power station of 1600MW capacity be commissioned in 2016, utilising the existing connection to the national grid when the nuclear reactor at Hunterston is due to be decommissioned.”
Also part of Phase One of the project is an extended coal storage yard to serve the existing coal terminal and proposed clean coal power station.
Phase Two highlights the return of the controversial hub proposal.
