"Running on empty" - Largs draw with Renfrew
Saturday's goalscoer Ross McMillan received the Man of the Match Award for his recent performance against Kilwinning. Ross is pictured on the left, with sponsor Calum Corral. Ross was given Man of the Match again on Saturday.
Largs Thistle boss Sandy McLean told the 'News' after Saturday's draw with Renfrew that his side are missing a 'rub of the green' at the moment but could not fault his men for lack of effort.
Thistle took the lead after Ross McMillan's header from a corner kick midway through the second half but that was cancelled out with five minutes to go as ten man Renfrew got a late equaliser.
Just moments before, striker Willie McClure had been impeded when he was running through on goal prompting the red card.
Sandy said: "With five minutes to go, it was unfortunate to concede the equaliser. It was a hopeful ball into the box which gets stuck in the mud, the boy sticks his toe on it and it ends up in the back of the net. Considering the conditions, I thought the players were excellent - they were passing the ball about much better than the last couple of weeks.
"We have been running on empty at the moment - we only had 13 players on Saturday. There wasn't a lot of chances and the keepers were not called into action all that much. I think we are just missing out on the rub of the green at the moment."
Despite Thistle's poor home form which has seen them without a win in their last three games against Renfrew, Kilwinning and Winton Rovers in the Ayrshire Cup, the Largs manager has said that the club still have a chance on promotion.
