Largs could form football association
Exploratory talks are underway concerning setting up a Largs football association, it was revealed at the recent Largs Thistle AGM held in the Willowbank Hotel in Largs.
Thistle President Douglas Bennie said he had held talks with Councillor Alan Hill and Inverclyde Sports Centre Principal John Kent regarding setting up a Largs FA to encompass local football clubs such as Largs Thistle, Largs United and Largs Colts. A new FA body attract sponsorship to provide improvements to local stadia which would include Barrfields Park, Bowen Craig, and the new grass pitch at Inverclyde. Mr Bennie told the Thistle AGM that the club is busy enough raising funds for running the club which is run as a small business, and believes it would be a benefit for the future of the stadium in general, and would be looked upon favourably in the community.
It was expressed by committee members that under a new F.A scheme, it would be sacrosanct that Thistle have first call on Barrfields for junior fixtures and training purposes. Exploratory talks were at a formative stage so far but positive, he reported. It was agreed at the AGM that these talks should continue.
