Solution to Largs' bike row
In the ‘News’, the sensational headline “Bike Brats”, conjured up a situation in Largs seafront that was dangerous.
As a frequent user of the Largs promenade, particularly the area referred to, from the pier to Aubery, I have never witnessed anything slightly dangerous. In fact it is a pleasure to see all sorts of cyclists using the bike track - from whole families, OAPs, young children, and yes! - even teenagers.
To abolish the cycle track would be a retrograde step. Would the Largs Community Council rather see these cyclists “dicing with death”, along the Greenock Road, where speeding is prevalent?
In a world where we are trying to promote more pedal power, we should be trying to encourage more cycle tracks instead of less!
Our local schools are promoting proficiency training in cycling to all school children. What’s the point, if there is nowhere locally they can safely cycle?
The Largs seafront problem could be solved - No, not by abolishing the track - but by repainting the now faded lines, and putting up suitable notices with definitive instructions, so that all users can harmoniously enjoy our beautiful seafront.
