Local Labour peddle lies about our schools
IN two letters of similar content, Allan Wilson and Valerie Reid attack Alex Salmond for “shameless hypocrisy” for opening St Matthew’s School in Saltcoats, claiming he was against this building, when I doubt if he even knew of its existence, till he received the invitation. I daresay, another form of attack would have resulted if he had refused the invitation. Heads you win, tails you lose!
They go on to peddle the lie that Alan Hill and myself were opposed to the siting and building of St Matthew’s and the rest of the schools - all built in Labour Wards as an £80m election bribe.
Of course, the SNP are against the expensive raising of cash by the PFI/PPP - a method which will require my grandchildren, who are still at Primary school, to continue financing this for decades.
As for Mr Wilson’s criticism of the Scottish Futures Trust, which he describes as unworkable, he fails to understand it is simply a method of raising cash by interest bearing Bonds - favoured in the past by USA for funding public works.
How will we replace Largs Academy? I was not aware that Largs Academy was needing replaced in the imminent future, having recently built an IT extension.
Local Labour chairperson V Reid tells us that Labour delegates at a recent meeting in Saltcoats, demanded more money for NAC. At present, the Labour executive is replacing over 300 houses in the Vineburgh area of Irvine, at a cost of £27m.
The Irvine Bay Company is renovating the centre of every town, south of Ardrossan, and excluding the Garnock Valley, in a bid to make the area more attractive for industry to locate. We have not even got to the Magnum, which will cost over £20m to replace. Still the Labour Party demand more money for similar types of projects, in a time when the UK economy is entering a recession!
