NAC sort the dog poo bins

We can sometimes be very quick to complain or criticise, but rather slow to acknowledge competence and courtesy when matters are rectified.

Please allow me to acknowledge the fact that N.A.C has attended to the list of complaints associated with my previous letter concerning West Kilbride Park. As I write, all litter bins are fitted with the appropriate bin liners, the bench seat has been secured, the dog waste bins have been attended to and the park is fit for use. Thank you to the official(s) who responded to the matters raised. What more needs to be said?

Well possibly that provision, care, and refurbishment of civic amenities requires the whole community to be involved. Whether or not people get involved, we are all implicated!

Experience has taught me that communities can complain and campaign for better provision from the local authorities, but often the amenities provided are vandalised, and the area returns to a previous state of dereliction. In such cases it is unhelpful to pillory the Local Authority.

The wooded walk way, an extension of the park in West Kilbride, is continually vandalised, rubbish and glass spilling into the burn, the official notice board wrecked, and the netwire fencing around the play courts destroyed. Experience has again taught me that it can be very dispiriting to local officials if they are continually pouring time, money and effort into providing civic amenities only to see them abused.

If the economic climate worsens, it may well be that there will come a time when there will be a complete lack of decent facilities, by which time it will be pointless to pillory the N.A.C. The community should be working with them, now, to maintain standards.

Meanwhile, my thanks to them.

Ian Gorman,

West Kilbride
