I read with interest, the article in a recent paper headlined "To A Viking" for Largs'
I was surprised to discover that North Ayrshire Council had not included Largs in any of their Homecoming Celebration plans.
However, I would like to inform your readers that while North Ayrshire Council may have forgotten about Homecoming Year in Largs, St.Columba"s Parish Church certainly has not.
A Homecoming 2009 Gala committee has been formed and plans are already underway for a series of events throughout the year.
The first of these began with a Soup Lunch and a Cream Tea, last Saturday, to celebrate the opening of our Heritage Centre. A Tartan Tea Room will run each Saturday throughout the summer and our main community event "A Summer Gala" will be held on 1st August.
A special Homecoming weekend is planned for the end of September, culminating in a Back To Church Sunday, where people who have not attended church for a while, or who may never have attended church before, are warmly invited to attend a special service, followed by a fellowship lunch.
A brochure highlighting all the events can be obtained from the Heritage Centre and from Largs Information Bureau.
We very much hope that the people of Largs will join us in our celebrations.
