Largs Tennis Club AGM

Largs Rotary Club

The business part of last week"s meeting included an item of club fellowship, with a proposed visitor to Dumfires House, Auchinleck. This is a first for the club and should be worth the trip. Graham Ross introduced local resident Sir John Arbuthnot to address the members. Although taking retirement from an academic career in Glasgow, Sir John had many other interests to occupy his time. The one he chose for his talk/presentation was about "Afrox" - a fairly recent organisation.

The purpose is to use a multidisciplinary approach to improve cancer prevention and control in Africa" from its base in Oxford with the help of colleagues and a Scottish benefactor, action has already been taken to improve screening procedures, radio therapy, improved and affordable vaccines, some redundant medical equipment from the UK is already installed and being put to good use.

Ghana has already benefited from 'Afrox' in assisting the health ministry. write a national cancer plan, which will go along way to help contain this scourge for future generations of Africans.

Rotary could possibly help 'Afrox' at club level locally, and also internationally.

Fire Brigade full up!
