Largs Film Society returns this year with a stimulating programme of new and classic films from Britain, America and Europe. The Society aims to entertain, inform and occasionally challenge their members with an assortment of handpicked films.

The new season opens with the American film Trumbo (2015). Dalton Trumbo is a talented screenwriter. However, his active membership in the Communist Party leads him to be jailed and blacklisted for his political beliefs; not surprisingly his finances and family life become increasingly strained. He goes to work as a pseudonymous screenwriter for low-budget movie makers.

Over time, industry suspicion of Trumbo's ghost-writing develops, but he is careful not to confirm it. In 1960, actor Kirk Douglas recruits him to write the screenplay for Spartacus. What follows next is a story about principles, and how principles can make or break you.

The Society screens films every third Friday from September to May in the Valhalladrome at Vikingar; doors open at 7pm with a short introduction to the film before the screening at 7.30pm. Entry is to members and their guests. For membership enquiries please contact membershipsecretary@largsfilmsociety.co.uk. For more information and programme details see www.largsfilmsociety.co.uk
