There is a touch of Long Lost Families among the cast of the spectacular Gypsy musical which runs from Thursday to Saturday in Barrfields Pavilion Theatre this week.

Fifteen years ago, when Kirsty Campbell starred as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, in what was considered by many to be one of the finest individual amateur performances on the local stage, her cast father was Ian Sommerville as Alfred Doolittle.

They have never been in the same show since but now, in Gypsy, the musical by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim Kirsty is the principal character as Mama Rose with Ian appearing as her father, Pops. Ian had a starring role in last year's sell-out show, Caledonia USA.

Kirsty, who is returning to the Barrfields stage for the first time since 2002, has all of the big songs such as Everything Is Coming Up Roses.

Many members of the audience remember seeing Kirsty's mother, Liz Samuel who was a big star of Largs Operatic shows in the 80s and 90s, so a family tradition is continued.

Gill Sullivan will be Gypsy Rose with Karen Wilkin as sister June and look out for the special strippers' scene featuring Pat Nicol, Maggie McMillan and Donna Laing, making her debut with the Players.

There is a large cast, including budding starlets from Largs Youth Theatre plus an orchestra of ten, led by musical director Ryan Moir, all produced by young director Ruairidh Forde.

Tickets will be obtainable at the door every night for the 7.30pm shows but to book your ticket in advance click on to www.ticketsource or www.largsplayers.co.uk
