Largs Amateur Operatic Society will bring ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ to local audiences in 2018.

The show will be an amateur production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd and will be performed in Barrfields Theatre, Largs from Wednesday 28th to Saturday 31st March.

The principals are Jordan Benacci (Jesus), Andy Park (Judas), Sarah Dillon (Mary Magdalene), David Cameron (Pilate), David McGarvey (Herod), Calum McVittie (Peter), Allan Penders (Simon) Al Black (Caiaphas), John Scott (Annas).

After the success of ‘Evita’ in 2016, the operatic society will perform another composition by the talented duo of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Music) and Tim Rice (Lyrics). ‘ Jesus Christ Superstar’ is a rock opera loosely based on the accounts in the Gospels of the last week in the life of Jesus, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. The show has been a global phenomenon for over 40 years, wowing audiences worldwide. It looks at the well-known events through the eyes of Judas Escariot.

Some of the leading roles include Andy Park as Judas Iscariot.

Andy said: "I've wanted to be part of the chorus since I was a teenager. My best friend Kenny and I once agreed to decorate a room in order to get to see it live at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow! Under some wallpaper in a house in Saltcoats are the words "We only need to get to the end of this wall and we get to go". The fact that I have the part of Judas is totally amazingly and overwhelming."

Andy is no stranger to the stage at Barrfields. This is his twelfth production with the Largs group.

David Cameron is delighted to be performing with Largs Amateur Operatic Society after a break of five years when he played Nicely Nicely in their 2013 production of Guys & Dolls. David has had many leading roles including Tevye in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, The King in ‘The King and I’ and Bill Sykes in Oliver. David has enjoyed performing with the Orpheus Club Glasgow and most recently as Dick Deadeye on the Tall Ship.

Alistair Black is the priest Caiaphas. Alistair Black is a resident of Gourock and is a former member of Greenock Light Opera Company and Laughing Stock Theatre Co with whom he has taken part in such diverse shows as ‘The Merry Widow’ and 'Annie Get Your Gun', where he played Buffalo Bill.
