After the success of ‘Evita’ in 2016, the operatic society will perform another composition by the talented duo of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Music) and Tim Rice (Lyrics). ‘ Jesus Christ Superstar’ is a rock opera loosely based on the accounts in the Gospels of the last week in the life of Jesus, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. The show has been a global phenomenon for over 40 years, wowing audiences worldwide. It looks at the well-known events through the eyes of Judas Escariot.

Some of the leading roles include Calum McVittie who plays Peter. This is Calum's second outing with the Largs Amateur Operatic Society. Calum is no stranger to the stage, however, as he been treading the boards for nearly 20 years.

Jordan Benacci will take on the part of Jesus Christ. This is Jordan's first show for Largs Operatic, however he is no stranger to the stage having performed in Greenock Light Opera Company, the Apollo Players in The King's Theatre in Glasgow, and even appears in Scottish comedy Still Game in the opening credits of the programme.

Calum’s credits as an actor include: “Jean Michel” in La Cage Aux Folles, “Mickey” in Blood Brothers, and over 10 pantomimes with both Largs Players and Greenock Players. Most recently Calum played role of Buttons in the Beacon Art Centre in Greenock.

John Scott takes the role of High Priest, Annas in Jesus Christ Superstar. John returned to the stage after an absence of more than 25 years as tango singer, Magaldi in Largs Amateur Operatic Society’s 2016 production of 'Evita' and played Cord Elam in last year’s 'Oklahoma!'
