Four to one people are against a coal plant coming to Hunterston, a survey of Fairlie and West Kilbride villagers has revealed so far.

Local MSP Kenny Gibson has sent out letters to Largs, Fairlie and West Kilbride concerning the 2 billion plans for a clean coal development by Dong and Peel Holdings.

According to letters received so far, Mr Steve Graham of the SNP, and a Fairlie councillor, revealed that a ratio of four to one were against the development in the local area. However, he said that letters which have been sent out to Largs have shown not as strong opposition to the huge plans which are reliant on clean coal capture technology coming to fruition. Mr Graham was keen to add that the results were not yet finalised when revealing the figures at a recent Fairlie Community Council meeting.

Meanwhile, Fairlie Councillors are demanding to know why two major developments for the south of the village - a new coal power station and a container hub - have found their way on to a list of national projects for Scotland in the planning framework.
