Largs Fire Brigade have been busy with call-outs during the past week including a burnt out car in Brisbane Glen.

The local retained crew were called out near midnight from Wednesday into Thursday last week after reports that a Mondeo car was on fire up the glen near Tourgill Lodge.

Fire officer Peter Bowyer said: "I don't know if it was stolen or what but the driver had fled the scene. Somebody had smashed it into the bridge and it was on fire. It was completely burnt out." Earlier that evening, the Largs firefighters were called to another blaze in the grounds of the Stevenson Institute as rubbish and beer cans had been set on fire.

On Saturday afternoon, reports of a garage on fire were received by the emergency services as a fire crew were sent to Glen Road in Fairlie only to find that it was a malicious blaze after rubbish had been set on fire. A woman and her family got locked in their household in Lade Street on Monday morning and the crew were called to help force open the door and let her and her children out of the property.
