Largs Regatta Week, one of Scotland's premier sailing competitions, is celebrating after having its sponsorship agreement with Clydeport extended by three years.

More than 100 boats and 40 dinghies will take part in a series of races, including the prestigious Round Cumbraes Race and Scottish Two Handed Race, at this year's event which runs from August 28 until September 5.

In the addition to the racing, there is also a strong social programme within the week including dinners and prizegivings.

Clydeport, Scotland's main west coast ports operator, has sponsored Largs Regatta Week for the last five years and has now confirmed it will continue to back the event for a further three.

Organisers of the week say it is a timely boost ahead of what will be a significant 12 months for Scottish sailing on the west coast, with Greenock set to host a leg of the Tall Ships Races 2011 in July of next year.

Carolyn Elder, Managing Director at Largs Yacht Haven, said: "We are absolutely delighted to continue this valuable sponsorship agreement and very grateful that Clydeport is supporting our sport.

"Largs Regatta Week is one of the "big four" sailing events of the Clyde and the last one of the season so it is the perfect way to round off the 2010 calendar in style before looking forward to the Tall Ships Races next year.
