All of us on the Largs Train Station platform on Tuesday 15 February, felt anger to a degree, and frustrated once again, that trains were late or cancelled.

I spoke in Central Station to the Duty Manager, who at first said that 7.25am train from Largs ran and had not been cancelled. On checking he found that the train had left Glasgow at 6.30am for Largs instead of 6.15am due to a signalling failure at Shields Junction.

It was held at Ardrossan to allow it to meet its timetable for the rest of the day. It was necessary, logical, for Scotrail, but unfortunate for the waiting passengers at Largs.

While the delay till 7.42am was an inconvenience to all of us it was a bad start for two students taking exams at Glasgow University and one in Ayr late for an exam start not being in a good frame of mind - if allowed to take the exam at all. Another lady was an exam invigilator - not good.

I was given a complaints form and advised to send it to Fort William. I eventually spoke to Stephen Montgomery managing director of Scotrail, in Glasgow.

He gave me explanations for problems on the line to Largs which occur with Largs being the end of the line and single track, and the 5.20pn from Central, which he acknowledged, and are due, he said, to the introduction of the new trains. He said that these in particular were being watched and was hopeful the problems would be overcome in three weeks time.

He did apologise and said he would have two inspectors/managers at Largs station on the next day to explain the position to early morning passengers. 54 passengers signed my petition regarding the poor train service, of the 65 at Largs, eleven for their own reason did not sign, though most expressed agreement with its purpose.

I had a job to get to Stephen Montgomery, it was like trying to get through a maze to meet him, and before that it was like battering your head off a brick wall with offers of customer complaint forms which they didn't have in Largs because they had ran out.
