A Second World War evacuee returned to Millport for her 80th birthday celebrations.
Margaret Steele (nee Barclay) was based on the Isle of Cumbrae from 1941-45 and can remember when you were more likely to get a horse and carriage ride around the island than a bus, and when broken biscuits were given as rations from the local sweet shop!
The family sent Margaret and husband James to stay in Windsor Villa, West Bay, for a week to celebrate, and a special party was hosted as family and friends from Glasgow headed 'doon the watter'.
Margaret was evacuated from Knightswood during the war to Millport, along with approximately 500 other children.
