Caledonian MacBrayne are hoping to return to a normal island ferry service within days.

The Largs-Cumbrae route operator was dismayed to find last Wednesday that MV Loch Shira had sustained damage to her forward propulsion unit when she came into contact with a boulder beneath the water.

Gigha ferry MV Loch Ranza - built in the 1980s and capable of carrying up to 200 passengers and 12 cars - has been drafted in while repairs are continuing, but CalMac say that island ferry users are asked to take into account the replacement boat's smaller capacity before travelling.
