Should the Largs Yuletide Night have gone ahead last Thursday night?

That is the question being posed by Roger Bunting, owner of Moorings Knitwear in Largs Main Street, who said: “Understandably because of the storm throughout the day, there were issues, with lighting, and market stall traders who were supposed to be there, who couldn’t be there.

“I have a safety issue whether it should have gone ahead. There were still slates flying off of roof round here. From a safety point of view, I didn’t think it was such a great idea. Yes it was quiet, and with the weather conditions, people maybe thought it wasn’t going ahead. There needs to be more emphasis on the businesses of the town - some areas of the town were too quiet.” “I was at West Kilbride Yuletide on the Friday night - to me there seems to be a huge massive lesson to be learned from the way that the West Kilbride yuletide is organised with the amount of events they have not just for adults but for children. What an atmosphere. It is the best yuletide that I have been to. Various business owners from Largs who visited were astounded. How come a small place like West Kilbride can do this yet Largs four times the size, with ten times the amounts of businesses, can’t?” However, in response, Mr Duncan Conner, owner of the Bus Stop Toy Shop, and one of the main organisers of Yuletide, said: “The police were perfectly happy for the event to go ahead. The various businesses who put a bit of effort into it got their rewards for it.”
