Unloading operations have resumed at Clydeport’s Hunterston terminal.

Peel Ports have praised staff for their efforts in restarting unloading procedures at the port.

Following last month’s blaze, concerns had been expressed by industry sources about the impact on unloading of coal ships.

A Peel Ports spokesperson said: “We have been working hard to develop alternative ship loading operations since the recent fire, with the emphasis being on safety and sustainability.

“Thanks to the effort and commitment of our 100-strong team at Hunterston, we have been able to recommence discharge as we continue with the damage assessment process.” On Sunday 22 March, a blaze broke out in a ship loader and conveyor system.

during firefighting operations, crews had to retreat to a safe distance as a precaution due to the partial collapse of a section of the machinery. a firefighting tug and a police helicopter using thermal imaging equipment were called in to help.
