The aquarium visitors attraction in Millport is set to make waves in coming years. The impressive viewing tanks feature in stage two of the re-development of the Field Studies Centre, which will be
undertaken by Irvine firm, McLaughlin Construction.
Phase 2 of the large-scale project will see the redevelopment of existing accommodation buildings as well as the on-site Robertson Museum and aquarium.
Previous work included new teaching and accommodation blocks, improved common room and recreation spaces and the installation of a biomass boiler.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Work is starting this month and is due for completion in early spring 2016.
Head of the centre, Daniel Moncrieff, said: “We are really excited about carrying out the next phase of development work as it brings us to our goal of completing work on the facility.
“It will enable us to offer even more high quality accommodation for visiting groups and to showcase the wonderful history and marine life of the Isle of Cumbrae within the enhanced museum and aquarium.”
The Field Studies Council began operating in Millport in January 2014, and since then over £4.3m has been invested in the site, with support from North Ayrshire Council and highlands and Islands enterprise.

The Field Studies Centre recently launched a national Year of Fieldwork project.
