"We're all mad here Alice!" might sound an unusual line for an art exhibition, but when you realise the words are inspired by one of the most famous children's books of all time, things slowly start to make sense!

Alice Boyle, the daughter of Lord Glasgow, is bringing her innovative and stylish range of artwork back home to Kelburn Country Centre's new pavilion suite, for a special exhibition later this month.

Alice explained: "I called the exhibition, ‘We’re all Mad here, Alice’, as everyone will know that line from Alice in Wonderland, and it seemed to fit with what’s going on in my head and all the madness of Kelburn.

"Sometimes Kelburn does seem totally bonkers - in a good way though! Kelburn and Ayrshire will always be an inspiration to my work even if you can’t directly recognise it in my paintings. I feel a lot of pride coming back to Fairlie and Largs.

"After my exhibition two years ago, I was encouraged to do another show as people seemed to really enjoy the exhibition."

"I was thrilled, as I had been really nervous. I needed a couple of years to produce some new work as I have a thing about showing paintings more than once. There will be about 30 prints on show and about 10 originals. The pavilion will be filled with colour!"

Alice was born in 1981 in Scotland and moved to London in 2007 after gaining a Masters from Edinburgh College of Art and a BA from The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. She has had six solo exhibitions in London, including at Mayfair; Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, and at Bedfordbury Gallery in Covent Garden. In March 2007, she co-directed, ‘The Graffiti Project’, at Kelburn Castle in Scotland, working with Brazilian artists Os Gemeos, Nina and Nunca, all of whom encouraged Alice to focus solely on her artistic practice, which she did from early 2008.

Alice continually refers back to the same artists for inspiration, such as Klee, Miro, Redon and Chagall.

Amongst many sources of inspiration it is these artists who she feels have the dreamlike quality that she is trying to re-imagine in her own world.

* Alice's exhibition is open to the public at Kelburn Country Centre's Pavilion from Tuesday 24 to Sunday 29 November from 11am-6pm, free entry, and free tea and coffee!
