Encouraging more wildlife and marine based holidays, are some of key visions to help further boost economic performance in Millport.
North Ayrshire Council is offering local people the chance to have their say on developing and promoting island business, after around thirty people attended a workshop held in the DA Hall earlier this year.
Key aspects raised include improved accommodation from hotel to safe-catering and camping
facilities, and the need for more small business start-ups.
Setting up an all-round Cumbrae branding, with a single one-stop-shop website, and continuing to provide an attractive programme of events, were also highlighted in the report.
Increasing the role in marine tourism and sailing/water sports could be strengthened with more
moorings and ‘step ashore’ facilities, while promoting the island as a base for environmental/wildlife
focused breaks is another avenue which the business summit felt was keen to be explored.
The new masterplan involved consultation with major organisations and businesses, including
the Field Studies Council, and sportscotland, and various private businesses, to build for the future.
Prominent island groups including Cumbrae Community Development Company, Elderly Forum and the Isle of Cumbrae Initiative were also involved.
Any comments/feedback on the draft consultation document should be emailed to regeneration@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or by calling 01294 324758, no later than Friday 27 November 2015.

A spokesman for North Ayrshire Council said: “North Ayrshire Council commissioned Douglas Wheeler Associates Ltd in March 2015, to assist in researching, facilitating and drafting the Millport & Cumbrae Economic Plan. The plan aims to build on the council’s recent regeneration activity that has supported new investment at the FSC Millport Field Centre, sheltered housing and a successful bid to Historic Scotland to allow the implementation of Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme improvements.”
