The Largs Town Twinning Association has sent heartfelt sympathies to their French counterparts, following the atrocity in Paris on Friday evening.
Largs twinning chairman Richard Wilkinson said: "We sent a message to our counterparts in Andernos- les-Bains, our twin town, sharing thoughts on the terrible events in Paris on Friday evening.
"We have received a reply thanking us for our kind message."
Richard's e-mail message on behalf of the Largs Town Twinning Association read: "Please accept our condolences regarding the awful events in Paris on Friday evening. We all share an abhorrence at these evil acts and support the French people as they face the future after such terrible atrocities."
Christine Dahlem, representing Andernos Town Twinning group, responded: "Thank you so much for your support. It warms up our hearts to know that you are with us. My daughter lives in the centre of Paris, and we all know people, most of all young people who were there or very near... Awful. A nightmare. But life must go on, it is the only way to win.
"I am thinking about my father who had been sent to a concentration camp for resistance. What kept him alive and saved him was the strong will of not letting THEM win."
