The Largs Town Twinning Group is continuing to fly high, and chairman Richard Wilkinson flew on board an aeroplane with a French friend from our twin town of Andernos to prove it!
The former local councillor was even treated to the special plane flight by Eric Arnaud for his birthday, when visiting Andernos recently.
Eric is a former chairman of the Andernos Town Twinning Group.
Richard commented: "Eric took me up for a flight on his little aircraft. We flew about 900 feet over the Arcachon basin, and I could spot all the little landmarks, and even the oyster boats. It was very enjoyable!"
And enjoying a fine wine has been a common ground for the Largs Town Twinning Association in their travels to France
Largs' twin town of Andernos-Les-Bain is a short distance away from Bordeaux, so during their recent trip, the Largs group enjoyed a visit to one of the famous wine regions, Entre-Deux-Mers.
The Largs group had a whole day away hosted by the council in Andernos to Entre-Deux-Mers, which means between two seas, but in reality, it is actually between two rivers.
Richard quipped"It is one of the famous wine regions of Bordeaux where we given a wine tasting and a meal." You don't twin with Bordeaux and not like wine!"
The town twinning group is a friendly group for Largs people who want to enjoy and experience new cultures, and through the common language of wine, it has proved to be most appetising!
In fact, the group is hosting Justin Hoy, of Glasgow Wine School, for a wine and food tasting fundraiser at the Woodhouse Hotel in Largs on Friday 27 November. (For tickets, contact Richard 07768 733 454)
The event is to support a Largs sports team travelling to Nussloch in Germany to defend the town's Twin Town Games title which was won in 2014, when Largs hosted the international mini-Olympics event.
The Town Twinning Association is an exchange visit, with the French hosting Largs families in their homes, with the Largs families returning the favour in alternate years.
The Town Twinning Games involves Andernos, Segorbe in Spain, Nagyatad from Hungary, Nussloch in Germany, and Largs, and takes place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May 2016.
