We are sad to report that well-known West Kilbride man, George Blyth, who used to own the Dunlop and Blyth newsagents and bookshop, has passed away. George was in his early 90s.
Enterprising George, and wife Molly, built up a strong reputation for top quality service, and they also owned a toy shop and craft shop in the village for many years - a work ethic which continued into their retirement.
George was was born in Edinburgh and was in the RAF during the Second World War, working for the ground crew mending planes, and went to India.
George and Molloy were married on 3 June 1950 in the Barony Church, West Kilbride.
George, who was an elder at West Kilbride Parish Church and previously Overton Church, provided first aid training at the West Kilbride Boys Brigade for many years.
Dunlop and Blyths newsagent, stationers and booksellers was a local institution and a one-stop-shop for many items, and George's pleasant manner and helpful attitude won him many friends in the village and beyond.
Reverend Ross Mitchell, former church minister, said: "A thoroughly gracious gentleman who will be remembered by a great many people from various generations."
