P1, 2 and 3 have been working hard to practise our songs and poems for our Burns Assembly. We have learned about Robert Burns and why he is a famous Scot who is celebrated by eating haggis, neeps and tatties. P4 have been learning about reading scalers and have made some delicious shortbread. They are in the process of creating a Scots dictionary and we have been learning how to create power points and will be using this knowledge to create power points for our Robert Burns research.

P5 enjoyed learning their Burns poem, ‘Willie Wastle’ and presenting it to the class. Mrs Beckford has a very difficult job choosing six finalists for the poetry competition. In science we have been investigating how quickly different materials can dissolve in water. Some of our results were not what we expected.

P7 have begun their debates. The first debate was about free school meals. One group proposed free school meals for all primary school children while one group opposed this motion. The speeches were very good with evidence of research and cooperative group work. When the votes were counted it resulted in a draw! Mr Lewis then had to give the deciding vote which was for free school meals for all. Next topic up for debate is ‘should cigarettes be illegal’?
