A 71 year old man fell victim to a bogus caller in Largs and handed over £110 to the callous thief.
The scam happened in Chapelton Way on Tuesday 2 February when the OAP answered the door, and was asked if he wanted some tree work done to his garden.
The pensioner agreed to hand over the sum but the work was never done.
The thief was described as aged 20-30, five foot 9 and heavy build, wearing a woolie hat, and left the area in a white pick-up van.
If you can help the police, contact the non-emergency telephone number 101.
Police have also warned that bogus callers carrying out water checks in the neighbourhood of Dalry and Beith could strike in Largs, and ask residents in the surrounding area to be aware, and reporting anything suspicious immediately.
