Police charged a motorist with driving at 55mph in a 30mph limit in Fairlie's Main Road at 10.55am on Monday.
Inspector Joe Conway of Largs Police said: "We normally issue fixed penalty tickets but due to the high speed that the driver was allegedly going at, the decision was taken to charge the individual concerned."
