New eco lights will be installed at Largs seafront just a couple of years after they were installed.
At a recent  meeting, councillors discussed plans to replace the illuminations with a more robust and energy efficient alternative.
A report has advised that the lighting arrangement is deteriorating to an extent that without action it will be rendered unsafe and will need to be removed. The existing lights were installed after the previous lights were damaged by regularly being soaked by salt water, corroding the elements.
The cost to replace it is estimated at £23,000 but if the installation is extended to the Mackerston it would cost a further £4,5000.
The report  proposed that, once installed, the lights will need regular electrical maintenance inspection, cleaning and lamp replacement as required.
Maintenance costs are estimated at £3,400 and a further £1,600 for energy.
Local councillors - Alex Gallagher, Alan Hill, Grace McLean and Tom Marshall were at the meeting which discussed the deterioration of the current system, purchased in 2013 and intended to be suitable for this exposed coastal location. Members wanted to ensure the project was affordable in the financial climate.
Councillor Marshall, seconded by Councillor McLean, moved that the Committee note the maintenance difficulties associated with the condition of the current installation but approve the funding from the Largs Seafront Car Park revenues to replace the current installation.
They also recommended the approval of funding from the car park revenues to extend the installation to Mackerston putting green and extend the operation life of the installation throughout the calendar year.
